Weekend Getaway

We took a little weekend trip to Nash a few weeks ago and had the best time.
My relaxing weekend started out that Saturday morning with a lovely pedicure and a blowout and style (by my fave, Carlee). Not having to fix my hair is like.. the best gift ever. Tanner had been mowing a few of his yards and we got home at the same time and took an hour nap.

We woke up, threw some clothes in a suitcase and headed to Nashville for the night. We went to the Opry and had a great time. Little Big Town and Vince Gill were there and were wonderful. We love the Opry and go as often as we can. I booked this trip not even knowing who the guests were.. because we don't care!

Only the world's worst picture of LBT at the Opry.

We stayed at the Opryland Hotel which is always nice. So pretty and very convenient. We just so happened to be placed on the same hall as a group of band kids. Which could be the reason we woke up early Sunday morning.

I had planned to sleep in but that didn't happen. We grabbed some coffee and a light breakfast and I headed out to Relache, the spa at Opryland and Tanner headed back to the room to pack up our things.

The spa is super super nice and I so enjoyed it. I honestly can't wait to go back and I would definitely request the same therapist. They have a great staff and every amenity you could dream up!

Tanner wanted to run in the mall and get some new sunglasses and I agreed, although I was a grease ball from the massage. While there, my husband was hit on by some girl who knew him from school or something. She knew he was married but he has lost his ring so she must have thought he was fair game. Wrong. When I came out of the store and witnessed this girl lovin' on my husband, I got a little (a LOT) but mad.

We walked away from that little encounter and headed straight to the jewelry store. I made a purchase I wasn't planning on making, but Mr. Brown had to have a new wedding band. :)

We love getting away for the weekend. We know that while it's just the two of us, we better get to going! In the next few months we're going back to Disney with the fam and then taking another trip to the resort we honeymooned at for a belated 3 year anniversary gift.

Weekend trips with my husband are always a good time. I love doing life with you, Tan!

Three on Thursday

Because Five on Friday is too far away!

One: HAPPY MAIL DAYYYY!!!

I love coming home to a package on the back steps. Today I felt like I hit the jackpot! Our new luggage came in which is exciting (doesn't take much to amuse me). I got a 3 piece set and a 2 piece set that spins 360 degrees. Now I just need a destination and plane tickets. :)

Also, I think Hallie assumes that if she sits there very still she'll get to go in out of the heat. Sorryyyy!

Two: Have you heard this song? I love love love it. Download it now, later isn't soon enough.

I feel inspired by the lyrics and I want to DO SOMETHING BIG! I'm praying about what I can do and I'll throw y'all in the mix. What can you do? Can we work together on a project? Got something on your mind? Email me. wt_brown@live.com

Annnnd, (yes, I'm still on nĂºmero dos) I usually crop my screenshots where you can't see my battery percentage and time I took the photo. Why? I really don't know. But, I refrained today. You're welcome, creeps.

"We're never gonna change the world by standing still"

And three: Momma is cooking steak on the Green Egg tonight by request of her precious daughter. No, I don't have a sister. The menu is steak, twice baked potatoes, green beans, rolls and A1 to drink.. I mean to dip my steak in, of course. Keila is bringing Gigi's red velvet cupcakes and Max. Which is obviously all the sweets we need!

I am looking forward to a wonderful meal with my family, an easy (cross your fingers) Friday at work, and a restful weekend that I am in dire need of.

Y'all have a good Thursday night, friends.

Do What?

Lots of people know I work at my family's wood manufacturing business and I am super happy there. I love my job and love it even more since Tanner and I now work together. I even plan on working when we have kids, because I don't think this job is something I can give up.

I also am a licensed massage therapist. I went to school in 2009, passed my boards in 2010 and practiced until a few months after Tanner and I married in 2011.

Looking back, our first year of marriage was hard for me. Our marriage wasn't the hard part, that was actually a great time for "us". I was working (up to 6 clients a day), trying to run our household (grocery, cook, clean, laundry) and feeling awful. And I truly mean awful. I was so exhausted that I would lay on my massage table in between appointments and sleep for as long as I could, even if it was only minutes.

Tanner started helping me with things around the house and I eventually quit massage because it was simply too hard on my body. I was a "stay at home Whitney" for a month or so before starting at B & K Wood Products. There was an open position in the office and my brother, Jordan asked me if I would fill in. And, obviously "fill in" means "stay forever".

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in early 2013 and that's when everything started making more sense to me. Aches, exhaustion, insomnia. Reading the definition of fibro was like reading the definition of Whitney Brown. I started to feel better and simply being mindful of my limits allowed me to do more. I have flair ups from time to time but for the most part I'm feeling good.

Thankfully, I am now practicing massage again (part time) and being back in the calming environment of a spa makes me so happy. I have recently taken classes to become a Licensed Prenatal Massage Therapist and just passed my Massage Doula course! A doula is a labor coach present during the time of birth providing the mother emotional support, physical comfort and information.

I am thrilled to have the opportunity of helping the soon-to-be mommy relax and soothe her achy muscles with massage and then be there for her during labor as a coach and a helping hand. Births with a doula show a substantial decrease in labor length, need for caesarian sections, epidurals and episiotomies. What a rewarding job!

Theses courses have rekindled my love for massage and opened a new door for my career. I have to complete 3 births as part of my internship, then I will be a certified labor coach! :) Yay for a new venture in life!
